Revised standard approved for RNs certified in reproductive health

The BCCNM board approved revisions to the Certified Registered Nurses: Reproductive Health practice standard to reflect its approval in March 2026 of two British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) courses. These courses—Contraceptive Management and Sexually Transmitted Infections—now include prescribing competencies, negating the need for certified RNs to complete an additional prescribing course. This change takes effect immediately.

Surveys

Professional Boundaries and Conflict of Interest

BCCNM is seeking feedback on drafted revisions to the Nurses: Boundaries in the Nurse-Client Relationship and Nurses: Conflict of Interest standards. We are updating these standards to reflect today’s health-care settings, clarify expectations, strengthen public protection, and better support culturally safe and anti-racist care.

Surveys close June 24, 2026

Nursing Standards

BCCNM invites all nurses to complete two surveys about nursing standards of practice.

The first survey focuses on your experiences with the LPN, RN, RPN, and NP Professional Standards and the RPN Code of Ethics. Your feedback will support the revision of these standards. The second survey explores how nurses use and apply standards of practice, including the workplace changes and trends.

Participate in expert panels

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is seeking RNs from British Columbia to participate in the following expert panels in Chicago, Illinois:

• NCLEX-RN Practice Analysis Expert Panel — October 13–14, 2026

• NCLEX-RN Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Expert Panel — November 17–18, 2026

These panels help ensure the NCLEX-RN exam continues to reflect current nursing practice. All travel-related expenses will be covered or reimbursed by the exam vendor.

National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, and June 21 is observed as National Indigenous Peoples Day. At BCCNM we remain committed in our work to address Indigenous-specific racism in the health-care system. We express gratitude to Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, leaders, consultants, families, and communities who continue to guide us in this important work.
