The application process for graduates of a BCCNM-recognized psychiatric nursing education program in British Columbia

BC grad application process

As a new or future graduate of a from a recognized psychiatric nursing education program in BC, you are now ready to apply to be a registered​ psychiatric ​nurse with the college. ​Here are the steps you need to take to complete your application.

1. Prepare your documents

To avoid delays or issues with processing your application, you should prepare the following documents before you start an online application:

  • Identification: You will need to provide two pieces of acceptable ide​​ntification. The specific requirements for identification can be found in the Identificati​on registration requirement. Please note: These documents must be notarized by a notary public or lawyer and their seal or stamp must be visible on the scanned image.
    NOTE: Notarization of documents must be done in-person by a lawyer or notary public; BCCNM does not accept virtually notarized documents.

  • Confirmation of registration (if you are or have been registered with another regulator): Please complete the confirmation of registration (non-RPN) form and provide it to your current/previous regulator. This must be current within 60 days of your completed application. 

  • A letter from your school: BCCNM requires written confirmation from your post-secondary institution that you have succesfully completed the requirements of your psychiatric nursing education program. If you are completeing your program in BC, your school will send this to us automatically.

2. Apply to BCCNM (including provisional registration)
        
  • Create a BCCNM account​
  • Complete and submit your application for RPN registration, including required documents and the assessment fee. You will be given the option of applying for provisional registration when completing this application form. 

  • As part of the application you will indicate your consent for BCCNM ​​to register you for the Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Canada Examination (RPNCE)​, and pay the exam fee. 

3. Review by BCCNM

​Our review of your initial application may indicate that further documentation is required. If so, we will request this from you directly. 

4. Provisional registration (if applicable)

If you applied for provisional registration, it will be granted once you have met the relevant registration requirements. Learn more about provisional registration.

5. Practising registration after successful completion of RPNCE
  • ​BCCNM will be sent your RPNCE results directly. You will be notified of your results.

  • Upon successful completion of the RPNCE, you will be eligible for practising or non-practising registration.​​​​​
