Are you sitting down to create your PD plan for the year? The college offers a wide variety of resource to support nurses meeting their Quality Assurance requirements.

Standards of Practice

The Standards of Practice—Professional Standards, Practice Standards, and Scope Standards—assist nurses to provide safe, competent and ethical care by setting the requirements for practice.

A reminder that the self-assessment questionnaires that nurses complete at registration renewal are based on the professional standards for each designation.

Learning resources

We offer resources to complement the six harmonized practice standards and also designation-specific resources as well.

Other BCCNM resources

Cultural safety and humility

Health providers, such as nurses, play a vital role in shaping the health care experiences of B.C. First Nations. A commitment to cultural safety and humility is a critical part of creating an environment free of racism and discrimination, where people feel safe receiving health care.

External resources

There are extensive resources available to nurses, through their employers, professional practice offices, Continuing Education credit courses, and others. Below are a few sources for additional learning:

Most nurses can access library resources via their affiliation with the employers or post-secondary institutions on the left. If you are in private practice or work for an employer that does not provide access to library resources, and you are an NNPBC member, you may register with NNPBC to access the online resources of the Electronic Health Library of BC (eHLbc).

We acknowledge the rights and title of the First Nations on whose collective unceded territories encompass the land base colonially known as British Columbia. We give specific thanks to the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking peoples the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh-ulh Sníchim speaking Peoples the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), on whose unceded territories BCCNM’s office is located. We also give thanks for the medicines of these territories and recognize that laws, governance, and health systems tied to these lands and waters have existed here for over 9000 years.

We also acknowledge the unique and distinct rights, including rights to health and wellness, of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples from elsewhere in Canada who now live in British Columbia. As leaders in the settler health system, we acknowledge our responsibilities to these rights under international, national, and provincial law.
