Please note:

While you may be able to schedule some patients on the day of your review, we request that you are able to flex your schedule to accommodate both the morning and end-of-day meetings with your assessor. An approximate review schedule is outlined below.

Your schedule

1. Assessor meet & greet (approx. 45-60 min)

The assessor will meet you at your workplace. You will then have the opportunity to give them a brief introduction to the nature of your practice and an orientation to your charts (e.g., charting approaches in the practice setting, navigating the EMR to follow the client’s journey). The assessor will also review with you the expected schedule for the day.

Please ensure that there is a quiet location where the assessor can review your charts and that the assessor has a way to get in touch with you should they need to.

2. Chart review (approx. 4-6 hours depending on charts – possible to see patients during this time)

The assessor will review at least 10 charts of clients to whom you have provided care in the preceding three months. Please note that if you are prescribing, these charts must include prescribing-related activities. The assessor will attempt to ensure that the charts are as representative of your practice as possible.

The charts will be reviewed based on the indicators of expected performance as set out in the BCCNM Standards of Practice, the NP Scope of Practice and Entry-level competencies for NPs in Canada.

3. Discussion about review findings (approx. 1 hour)

The assessor will meet with you to go over the chart review findings and together you will identify potential strategies for professional development. The assessor's findings and your strategies will be provided to the QA Committee.

Please make sure to budget time for this process, as it’s a key part of the review.
