Registration renewal

Nurses in British Columbia are required to renew their registration annually to ensure that they still meet the requirements to practise competently, ethically and safely.

If you did not renew by the deadline, your registration will expire at 11:59 pm on March 31, 2024. To apply to reinstate your registration, sign in t​o your BCCNM account​​ ​​​​​on or after April 1, 2024. Until your registration is reinstated, you must not practice as a nurse.​​​​​​​​​​​

Registration renewal closes on March 31 at 4:30 p.m. 

  • You must submit yo​ur annual registration renewal application and pay outstanding​ fees by the deadline. 

  • Your application will be considered incomplete if we have not received the application and/or the required fees. 

  • ​​In​complete applications are cancelled whe​​n the deadline passes.​​​​​​​​

The renewal application: What to expect

​​It will take 30-60 minutes to complete your application. You'll be asked to:

  • Update your employment history and contact information
  • Provide information about any criminal charges or convictions over the past year​
  • Consent to a criminal record check (if applicable)
  • Report your practice hours from the preceding year (view the LPN requirement​)
  • ​Meet your quality assurance requirements
  • Acknowledge you have read and understand all of the consent and declaration requirements
  • Pay your renewa​​l fee​

What happens if you don't renew on time

  • ​If you do not renew by the deadline, your registration will expire. You must not practise as a nurse unless you hold practising registration.

  • To regain your registration status, you will need to apply to reinstate your registration and pay the pay the reinstatement fee​, in addition to paying your registration fees.

Unregistered practice: If you practise without practising registration, even accidentally, you are participating in unregistered practice and will be subject to an additional unregistered practice surcharge to reinstate your registration. Learn more about the risks of unregistered practice​.​

Changing your status during renewal

Fee reimbursement for Nurses Bargaining Association members
Registrants who are also members of the Nurses Bargaining Association are eligible for reimbursement of their BCCNM registration fee. This process will be managed by employers; BCCNM has no additional information available. Please note: Fees for CNPS professional liability protection and NNPBC membership (optional) are not eligible for reimbursement.

​After you complete and submit your renewal application, a payment receipt will automatically be sent to your email address on record with BCCNM. You can also update your contact information and access payment receipts in your BC​CNM account.​
Registration renewal reminders 
Registration renewal reminders are sent to the email address you submitted to BCCNM, and continue until you complete your renewal or the renewal period ends. Registrants who wish to maintain their BCCNM registration after March 31 cannot opt out of renewal reminders. 

Are you retiring/cancelling your registration? If you do not intend to practice after March 31, you can log into your BCCNM account and click "cancel" . You will not receive any more registration reminders. Gather the information you need

Forgot your password? Visit the BCCNM sign-in page​ and click on "I've forgotten my password." You'll need your BCCNM ID and personal security word to complete the process.​​

Complete the renewal application
Submit your payment
  • After completing your application form, you will pay your fees using one of the secure online payment options. Read more about fees and payment options.

  • If you're enrolled in BCCNM's Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) program​, you will see the credits to your account o​n your invoice. If there are outstanding fees you will need to pay them before you can submit your application.​​​

Wait for confirmation of registration from BCCNM
  • Once you submit your completed application and pay your renewal fee, BCCNM Registration staff will assess your application to ensure you meet the registration requirements.

  • If your application is approved, you will be sent a confirmation of registration email to the email address on file with BCCNM.

  • Until yo​​u receive this email, your renewal application is still in progress and has not been approved.

Haven't received a confirmation email?

Your application won't be assessed until you submit your completed application and payment. Before calling to check on the status of your application, please:

  • Dou​ble-check that you submitted your application and that your payment went through.
