Message from the Registrar & CEO 

We are now over 18 months into the COVID-19 pandemic. While there have been moments of triumph and great progress made, it's hard to see an end in sight. With the fourth wave of the pandemic upon us, the system and those that work within it continue to be under extended and widespread strain. The challenges of providing care during this pandemic are not new, but the public discourse about vaccine passports and its impact on health professionals is.

PHO orders, vaccinations, and use of title

  • Nurses and midwives must follow Provincial Health Officer orders, including meeting mandatory vaccination status for working at certain sites.
  • In B.C., only individuals who are BCCNM registrants have the right and privilege to use the titles: Nurse, Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Midwife, and Registered Midwife.
  • Nurses and midwives do not share or promote misinformation that is anti-vaccine, anti-mask wearing, anti-physical distancing, or that otherwise undermines public health orders and guidance.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates


BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.

Office closed

BCCNM's office will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 30 in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1.
