Nurse practitioners must practise a minimum of 900 hours in the last three years in order to renew their registration. While this requirement has not changed, we have updated the type of hours that can be counted to better reflect the varied roles that nurse practitioners practise in today.
Former requirement
| New requirement
|
---|
A minimum of 900
direct clinical practice hours in the three years preceding renewal | A minimum of 900 practice hours in the three years preceding renewal, including at least 300 direct clinical practice hours
|
This change enables a nurse practitioner practising with NP scope in areas including administration, education, and research to also count their work toward their practice hours requirement, in addition to direct clinical practice.
We encourage NPs to visit the
nurse practitioner practice hours page on our website for more information about kind of activities can and cannot be counted toward the practice hours requirement, as well as questions and answers about the change.
