May 5: International Day of the Midwife, "100 Years of Progress"

May 4, 2022

Each year, International Day of the Midwife takes place on May 5. This year's theme is #100YearsOfProgress.

On behalf of the public we serve, BCCNM would like to thank B.C.'s midwives for their role in nurturing healthy families. As experts in healthy pregnancy and birth, B.C. midwives care for expectant parents and babies every day, from pregnancy, labour, and birth through the postpartum period. Midwives are playing a vital role in the wellness of our communities while also dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their own lives.

Thank you, midwives, for the dedication, care, and expertise you're providing to your clients and their babies during these exceedingly challenging times. We respect and commend you for your dedication and sacrifices; you make a difference in the lives of so many.

We also acknowledge the unique and distinct rights, including rights to health and wellness, of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples from elsewhere in Canada who now live in British Columbia.
