BCCNM received a report that Melanie Smith has held herself out as a registered nurse in British Columbia in order to seek employment in a hospital, dental surgery clinic, and in residential care. Melanie Smith may also be using the names Melanie Thompson or Melanie Cleroux. This person has never been and is not a registrant of BCCNM and is not entitled to practice as a registered nurse in British Columbia.
BCCNM reminds all employers in all practice settings of their obligation to verify the registration status for new employees in the roles of registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, licenced practical nurses, nurse practitioners, and midwives with BCCNM via the
nurse verification or midwife verification on the BCCNM website or by directing an inquiry to the BCCNM Registration department.
Nurse and midwife registration verification ensures that only those qualified with the requisite skills and education to be nurses and midwives are employed in nursing and midwifery positions in British Columbia.
