New harmonized Medication practice standard approved by BCCNM board

Sep 24, 2020

The BCCNM board on Sep. 24, 2020 approved the new Medication practice standard. This standard will come into effect Oct. 26, 2020.

This new practice standard replaces the existing RN/NP practice standards Dispensing Medications, Medication Administration, and Medication Inventory Management; the LPN practice standards Dispensing Medications and Medication Administration; and the RPN practice standards Dispensing Medications and Medication Administration. These standards are rescinded when the new standard takes effect.

This new standard outlines nurses' accountabilities for providing safe nursing care to clients when performing activities involving medication. It is the result of consultation with registrants, including nurses with medication safety expertise within all health authorities, and also incorporates current evidence.
