Earlier this year, BCCNM introduced a series of self-directed e-learning modules titled From Awareness to Action: Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism learning series. These modules aim to further support nurses and midwives to understand and apply the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism practice standard in your everyday practice.
Phase II of the learning series is now available here: Learning series.
Through these new modules, nurses and midwives will have the opportunity to:
- Increase your awareness of the practice standard
- Reflect on your own learning journey
- Understand your professional responsibilities
- Learn ways to address racism and discrimination
- Provide person-led, safe, humble, and trauma-informed health care for Indigenous Peoples
We are grateful for the support from Indigenous consultants and engagement groups in guiding us through this important work. We also want to thank nurses, midwives, and partners for their continued support in learning, reflecting, and providing culturally safe and appropriate care.
Following the launch of the first three modules, we collected feedback from nurses and midwives who completed them. We are pleased to note that participants felt the information met their expectations, improved their understanding of Indigenous-specific anti-racism, and better equipped them to act against racism. We thank you for your time and continued focus on ensuring safe and equitable care for everyone.
If you have any questions or feedback on the learning modules, please email culturalsafety@bccnm.ca.
If you have questions about the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism practice standard, contact Standards support.
Reminder: Once you complete these modules, you can include them as part of your professional development and self-assessment work to meet the annual QA requirements.
