Multisource feedback has been a mandatory quality assurance (QA) requirement since 2018. Every nurse in B.C. must participate in multisource feedback in their assigned year to meet their quality assurance requirements with the college.
How does multisource feedback work?
Before renewal
Nurses are notified via email before registration renewal when it is their year to participate in multisource feedback.
Nurses cannot start the multisource feedback process until they have renewed their registration, but are encouraged to ask three or more colleagues if they are willing to participate and collect their current email addresses.
At renewal
At renewal, nurses:
Log in to their BCCNM account.
Read the multisource feedback requirements carefully and ensure they are aware of and understand their QA requirements for the year.
Complete the renewal process.
Once renewal status is granted
Nurses have 30 calendar days from the date they renew their practicing registration to collect colleague feedback. Nurses will be prompted to start collecting feedback in the renewal confirmation email.
Once renewal is granted and the renewal confirmation email is received, nurses:
Log in to their BCCNM account, and click “Go to My Professional Plan".
Click on the multisource feedback icon, which will redirect to the “Invite" screen.
Enter the names and emails of their colleagues, one at a time. Clicking “send" automatically emails the colleague a link to the questionnaire.
Once invitations are sent
Nurses should monitor how many colleagues have given feedback by logging into My Professional Plan at any time to keep track of where they're at in the process.
If fewer than three colleagues have responded, nurses can enter the names and email addresses of additional colleagues. Nurses need a minimum of three responses to get a feedback report, so they should consider inviting more than three colleagues.
BCCNM will notify nurses when their 30 calendar days are up so they can invite more colleagues to ensure they meet the minimum. We will also remind those colleagues who haven't responded.
After the 30-day feedback period
Nurses will receive an email with a link to their report. Depending on how many responses they receive, this will either be a self-assessment report or a multisource feedback report that includes peer feedback. This feedback will be anonymous.
Nurses should use the feedback report to help identify areas of practice to improve as well as their strengths. The report can be used to inform annual professional development planning.
