RN scope of practice revised

The BCCNM board approved revisions to the registered nurse (RN) scope of practice. The revisions clarify and strengthen the requirements to be met by nurses when performing advanced activities. Effective Dec. 30, 2024.

Pelvic exam DST revised

The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) has launched a new pelvic exam decision support tool (DST). RNs and RPNs who carry out pelvic exams or cervical cancer screening must possess the competencies and follow DSTs established by the PHSA.

Updates to RN Certified Practice: Contraceptive Management

The BCCNM board approved revisions to the Registered Nurse Certified Practice Limits and Conditions to clarify that RNs certified in Contraceptive Management may prescribe, dispense, administer, insert, or remove any type of contraception, not just hormonal contraception. Once a decision support tool is established and nurses have developed the necessary competence, they may be able to incorporate this activity in their practice.

AGM recording now available

On Nov. 27, 2024, BCCNM hosted its annual general meeting (AGM) using an online platform. The recording is now available.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates

BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.
