Meeting your annual QA requirements

Nurses are lifelong learners. Participating in BCCNM's quality assurance (QA) program demonstrates you take professional development and continued competence in your practice seriously. During registration renewal, you’ll complete the annual self-assessment questionnaire. It’s a good idea to review the questions beforehand and identify which areas of your practice you’d like to work on in the coming year.

Indigenous cultural safety & cultural humility learning resources

BCCNM has extensive learning resources available to nurses. This month we’re highlighting our Indigenous cultural safety and cultural humility section. Here you’ll find courses, articles, videos, and more to support your learning journey. These resources are also helpful when doing your PD planning for the coming year.

NP regulation in Canada is changing

The role and practice of nurse practitioners has evolved since the profession started being regulated in the 1990s. The Nurse Practitioner Regulation Framework Implementation Plan Project is an initiative led by the Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators to improve labour mobility, increase consistency, and enable the right level of regulation of NPs nationally.

Revision to NP prescribing standard

The BCCNM board rescinded the limit related to amphetamines and other designated drugs. This permits NPs to prescribe amphetamines such as Adderall to adult clients. Effective immediately.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates

BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.
