BCCNM Educator Update | December 2024

DECEMBER 2024

LPN, RN, and RPN Scope: Same requirements, new format

As part of preparing for the new Health Professions and Occupations Act (2022) to come into force, BCCNM will be transitioning LPN, RN, and RPN scope of practice documents to stand-alone practice standards (including limits and conditions) and new learning resources. On the BCCNM website, these standards will be joining other practice standards (LPN, RN, and RPN).

There will not be any changes to the requirements in these standards, limits or conditions. We are currently engaging with nurses across the health system to inform this transition. We anticipate these changes taking place by August 2025.

Removal of OSCE requirement for NPs in spring 2025

In spring 2025, BCCNM will remove the OSCE requirement for nurse practitioner (NP) registration and support the standardization of NP regulation across Canada. There will be no changes to application processes and requirements until the amended bylaws supporting this change come into effect.

Keep in touch! Updating key contacts

The BCCNM Education Program Review (EPR) team maintains a list of key contacts for each approved education program. This list is used to communicate regulatory changes impacting educators, and provide updates on the EPR process.

All educational institutions are a little bit different, but these individuals could include the institution/program leader, and key employees that lead the EPR process. If you need to update the contacts for your education program, please send us an email so we can update our records.
