Notice of resource revision: Emergency Cardiac Care DSTs and competencies

Jul 6, 2021

BCCNM is informing registered nurses of updates to the Decision Support Tools (DSTs) and Core Competencies for Emergency Cardiac Care, referenced in the RN Scope of Practice relating to RNs when providing emergency cardiac care.

The revisions were conducted by a province-wide group of cardiac and critical care nursing experts. While there are no major changes in the actions nurses can take, as allowed by Section 6 of the Nurses (Registered) and Nurse Practitioners Regulation, the updated DSTs:

  • incorporate the most recent (2020) Emergency Cardiac Care guidelines
  • have been reorganized for clarity
  • include three new infographics to assist nurses to understand and apply the DSTs
