New BCCNM Board Chair and Vice Chair

Feb 1, 2021

On Jan. 28, 2021, the BCCNM board appointed Yvonne Savard as the new Board Chair and Pinder Cheema as the new Board Vice Chair.

Yvonne Savard, RPN, RN, BScN, MAED/CI, is currently employed in the Psychiatric Nursing Program at Douglas College and maintains an auxiliary position with Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services. Ms. Savard has dedicated significant time and energy to professional regulation over the past decade—most recently serving as the first Vice Chair of the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, the Vice Chair of the BC College of Nursing Professionals, and Chair of the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of BC. Yvonne’s sincerity, humility, and ability to lean into difficult discussions have all been critical factors in two successful and challenging regulatory amalgamations as well as building a board that is inclusive, engaged, focused, and effective.

Pinder Cheema received her law degree from the University of Victoria and currently practises with the BC Prosecution Service as Crown Counsel. Ms. Cheema was appointed by the Minister of Health to the first board of the BC College of Nursing Professionals in 2018 as a public board member and she was appointed by her board colleagues as the first Governance Committee Chair. In addition to serving on the BCCNM board, Ms. Cheema serves as an elected Bencher (board member) of the Law Society of BC for Victoria County. In that regard, she has served on the Governance, Ethics, Complainants Review, Rule of Law, Act and Rules, and Lawyer Education committees, as well as several task forces. She has chaired a number of hearings inquiring into the conduct of lawyers allegedly breaching ethical standards and she sat as a member on Review Panels. Ms. Cheema has also served on adjudicative boards, including the Mental Health Review Board, the Community Care Assistance Appeal Board, and the Safety Standards Appeal Board.
